One of the many things that really bothered me about Barack Hussein Obama prior to his being elected president of the United States was his call for a civilian security force every bit as powerful as the U.S. military. This was a real head-scratcher when I first heard Barack mention the notion of a militarized civilian security force. It still is.
The first question I have is, “why?” Why do we need a militarized civilian security force? I thought it was the Republicans, according to Obama and ilk, who were the so-called fascists and warmongers? Is the American populace so “out of control” that it must be policed by militarized federal forces? Is this for the “greater common good”? For public safety? It sounds more like a Schutzstaffel (“
The Denver Post, on February 15th, ran an Associated Press article entitled Homeland Security aims to buy 1.6b rounds of ammo, so far to little notice. It confirmed that the Department of Homeland Security has issued an open purchase order for 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition. As reported elsewhere, some of this purchase order is for hollow-point rounds, forbidden by international law for use in war, along with a frightening amount specialized for snipers. Also reported elsewhere, at the height of the Iraq War the Army was expending less than 6 million rounds a month. Therefore 1.6 billion rounds would be enough to sustain a hot war for 20+ years. In America.
Huh. So the DHS needs 2,717 mine-resistant, armored personnel vehicles? Once again, why? You could provide each State in the Union with 54 MRAP’s, along with around 32 million rounds of ammo at this rate. And don’t forget about those 7,000 select-fire, full-auto, short-barreled (SBR) M4 carbine (PDW) “personal defense weapons” the DHS recently requested. I mean, come on! WTF?
I’ve been visiting a lot of gun stores and talking to a lot of people involved with the firearms industry lately. There is a huge ammunition shortage right now. Where I live you can’t even find standard calibers like 9mm, .45 ACP, .223, 5.56 mm, or even .22 caliber ammunition! I never seen anything like it … ever. The ammo shortage is so severe that even police departments are having trouble procuring ammo. And yet the DHS is hoarding it?
Why, indeed, should the federal government not be deploying armored personnel carriers and stockpiling enough ammo for a 20-year war in the homeland? Because it’s wrong in every way. President Obama has an opportunity, now, to live up to some of his rhetoric by helping the federal government set a noble example in a matter very close to his heart (and that of his Progressive base), one not inimical to the Bill of Rights: gun control. The federal government can (for a nice change) begin practicing what it preaches by controlling itself.
I’m sorry, the purpose of our federal government is to provide for the general welfare of the American people, not threaten it. If law enforcement is having trouble getting ammunition for their people, maybe DHS should cough up some? Is it not threatening the general welfare of the nation when our federal government is behaving in a manner that threatens the rule of law? For public safety, huh? Yeah … right.
